The General Law for Data Protection (LGPD) has been responsible for a number of changes in companies, and one of them is certainly the data economy. The first major change that we should see is with regard to mapping all company data.

Prior to the LGPD there was no scaled concern for the amount of data generated, let alone the governance of that data. It is very common to see different areas of the company requesting information from a customer/supplier that is already in their database. This lack of control is what makes organizations so vulnerable to fraud and also directly influences the cost of storing, integrating, and managing this data.

And this cost of information can be measured when we evaluate the total investments that companies need to make in acquiring new technologies, hiring storage servers, among other relevant assets to meet the requirements of the law.

At Orys consulting, the director of products and services, Esdras Cândido, says that the first major change is the creation of an area dedicated to the theme and the indication of the person directly responsible for the data within the organization. “All other areas will have to report to this new area when it comes to data, preventing it from being lost or given to other companies or people without the company’s knowledge,” he says.
